Indian Runner Ducks

This most unusual duck did not come from India as first believed, but from the islands close to Java. It is now known that the first specimens into England came from Lombok and the related Bali duck, which is white and is crested, came from that Island.

In Victorian times there was much speculation on their origin and there were those who would not reveal the secret. In fact, a prominent expert argued that they came from Holland, but subsequently he was proved wrong.

They were the best layers and some strains still retain this ability. It was from the Runner and Rouen Ducks that the famous Khaki Campbell was developed.
